Habits

“First we make our habits, then our habits make us.”
 Charles C. Noble

The first time I walked in the 3Day, I went into it thinking it was a one time thing, something I wanted to be able to cross off of my list, ya know? I had watched the walkers go by the office was working in several years before and ever since that day I wanted to do it. I wanted to see if I could, to see what it was like. I went into my first 3Day with that sort of purpose, along with raising money for breast cancer research.

It probably sounds overly dramatic to those who have never done something like this but that first 3Day weekend was life changing. Those who have walked or participated in something similar know exactly what I mean. You really cannot do something like this and come out unaffected. Within 24 hours of completing the 2009 Walk, I was signed up for the 2010. And I still has blisters on my feet! Same with the 2010 Walk and this year’s, without the blisters.

Its true what the quote says above. We make our habits, whether they are good or bad, through repetition.

We are what we do. We become who we are by the things that we do over and over. We make our habits and they do indeed make us who we are.

The 3Day Walk is now a habit for me. It is part of who I am, who I want to be.

I’m a 3-Peat! I’m already signed up for September 2012 in SF Bay. And when that walk is done, before I even have my dirty clothes washed and my sleeping bag packed away, I can guarantee that I will be signed up for 2013.
