Its late on Sunday afternoon, I'm (understandably) tired and hurting. At this point, I'm limping but even more determined to complete the route for the day.
As I've mentioned before, the security team, crew and bike cops keep an eye on us, especially those who are obviously hurting or weary. At every intersection, every pit stop and several times along the path, someone would ask, "How you doin?" or "How you feelin?" or something like that.
My reply was always an enthusiastic, "I'm freakin' awesome!" I said it over and over and over again, every time I was asked.
I'm freakin' awesome!
Sometime that afternoon, I realized that the more I said, the more I felt it; the stronger the enthusiasm in my voice, the stronger my body became... it became somewhat of a self-fulfilling prophecy, an object lesson in the power of truly positive thinking.
It may have started out as a 'fake it til you make it' kind of thing but it wasn't that for long.
I truly was freakin' awesome!!
